80s Casuals Dakar Jacket

I’m liking the look of the upcoming Dakar Jacket from the 80s Casuals label.

After a few years of producing t-shirts based around the casual subculture they recently expanded into making outerwear. After purchasing the Awaydays cagoule (based on the old Peter Storm cagoule from the late 70s) I wasn’t too impressed but this looks like it could be a winner.

The jacket takes it’s inspiration from the Paris-Dakar rally, known as one of the most dangerous rallies in the world. Drivers raced from Paris, France to Dakar in Senegal. It was switched to South America in 2009 over security concerns.

The 80s casuals blog describes the jacket thusly - “The jacket is designed with the motorcyclist in mind with accessories being easily accessible to the rider. A compass is attached to the left breast pocket and can be on-show or hidden inside the pocket. (In 1982 the then Prime Ministers son, Mark Thatcher, famously got lost for 6 days. no compass?) The inner pocket has a drink pouch which is held in position by 2 velcro strips and can be released and taken out and finally a zip-on Balaclava connects to the inside of the neck collar. The collar itself also has a stored contrast colour hood. The Jacket has the waist adjusters to the outer sides, again for easy accessibility.”

EDIT: Looks like the Original Store ran out of these when I ordered and only told me a week later when I enquired and they refunded my money. Poor form.

The cold weather has well and truly arrived so it’s time for a wardrobe staple that I’m in dire need of.
I’ve been after a good sweatshirt for a while now and am having this one as an early Christmas present since this November has turned out to be more suited to the south pole than Stoke-on-Trent.
The grey sweat is an absolute classic and always reminds me of Steve Mcqueen or other effortlessly cool actors from the 50s and 60s like Marlon Brando. No fuss, no mess, just total style.
This particular sweat is a Champion Reverse Weave Crew Sweatshirt from the Original Store.

The Connoisseur’s Cagoule
The first foray into outerwear for top-notch label, the Casual Connoisseur. A remake of the classic cagoules of the late 70s and 80s that were a favourite of terrace lads everywhere made by the likes of Peter Storm and Patrick.
With visits to Accrington and Stockport coming up later this season meaning uncovered terraces and rain it’ll hopefully be released soon.
